Review: KeySmart Key Holder & Organizer

KeySmart - key organizerAnnoyed by your jumble of keys hanging off of your keychain? KeySmart offers up their eponymously-named product to wrangle those keys into submission. KeySmart consists of 2 laser-cut flat aluminum bars held together at its opposing ends by screws. Your keys fit in between the bars and rotate around the screw columns.

KeySmart prides itself on a precision-assembled product, a process that they show off in a video on their website, but it’s not a false claim. I could tell this as I was going through the steps of disassembling and then reassembling my unit.

Infographic of real-world spy gadgets that were first seen in the movies

Infographic: Real Spy Gadgets you first saw in the Movies

Despite being neck deep in the industry, it never ceases to amaze me how quickly technology progresses. Take ‘spy’ gadgets for example. Once upon a time, these were only to be seen in James Bond movies as mere fantasy. Fast-forward to today, and not only are many of those figments now real, they are extremely affordable. We’ve featured more than a few here at GfG ourselves.

The folks at UK’s Online Spy Shop put together a nice infographic that highlights some of the real-world spy gadgets that exist today that once made their debut on the silver screen. Ah, the future is stranger than you might think! The full graphic is after the jump.

Review: My Pad Leather iPad Case

my-pad-ipad-caseStudio Credence sent us a sample of their take on the now very common iPad case – this one very closely resembles a classic leather-bound book that you may find on a bookshelf of an “old money” household. Named the My Pad iPad Case, the My Pad is in fact made with leather and suede, and very snugly fits a 3rd-generation iPad. No, it won’t fit a 1st generation iPad, something I wish more manufacturers would explicitly point out.

Review: Dark Energy’s Reservoir – 8000 mAh Portable Charger

Reservoir portable USB chargerAnother portable charger you say? But wait, you’ll want to read about this one. The $129 Reservoir from Dark Energy is an 8000 mAh monster that can do double duty charging either 2 phones at once or 1 phone and 1 tablet.

I love the design – the all black, rubberized look with the pattern of indented circles immediately reminded me of the monolith slab from the book/movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. It does also come in white, and it would be nice to see other colors in the future. Unfortunately, the first photograph doesn’t do it justice. Take a look at the one below.

I was really surprised and happy about the weight. I completely expected it to be a great deal heavier given its capacity. I have another portable charger that could recharge my 2300mAh phone about 1.5 times that is at least as heavy as the Reservoir. Obviously, material choices make quite a difference.

Review: Klingg Magnetic Earphone Cable Holder

klingg-earphone-holderAre you tired yet of your headphones bouncing up and down and everywhere when you’re at the gym or on your bike or running? Instead of putting it down my shirt and out the bottom like I do, try out a Klingg earphone magnet.

Klinggs are a fairly straightforward, lightweight 2-piece accessory that secures your headphone/earphone cables in one piece (just press the cable into the slot) and then put the 2nd half on the inside of your shirt. The 2 pieces stick together using powerful neodymium magnets.

And oh yes, these are absurdly strong magnets. Pulling them apart with your hands requires a lot of force; it’s easier (and recommended) to slide them apart. Pretty much, they’re not moving once you’re wearing them for your workout.

OtterBox Commuter Series Wallet

OtterBox, who we’ve featured multiple times in the past for their waterproof cases, has a new product feather in their cap – the Commuter Series Wallet. We all carry around a wallet or money clip or handbag or purse or in the worse case, haphazardly stashed stack of money and cards.

But we also carry around smartphones and we never leave home without those either. What if we combined them in some way? Well that’s what OtterBox has done. The Commuter Series Wallet attaches to either your iPhone 5/5s or your Samsung Galaxy S4 phone. It slides out to reveal your money and cards and closes with an audible click.

Available now directly from OtterBox or other retailers like Amazon.
