Pentax Optio W90

Pentax Optio W90 12.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD If your digital camera can’t keep up with your weekend life, check out the Pentax Optio W90 adventure-proof digital camera. That’s right, adventure-proof as this camera is waterproof to 20 feet for underwater photography or rafting down the Colorado (JIS Class 8 waterproof), shockproof to 4 feet to withstand extreme use, dustproof for use in dry and sandy climate (JIS Class 6 dustproof) and coldproof to sub-freezing temperatures for snowboarding or ice climbing (14-104F)!

With adventure-proof features, you’d expect a big cased camera, but the Pentax Optio W90 is only 4.2 x 2.3 x 1″ weighing in with battery at 5.7 ounces sporting reinforced polycarbonate plastic available in black, pistachio green and orange.

Not only does this camera look and act tough, but the digital camera performs with a 12.1MP sensor and a 5x wide angle optical zoom to cover subjects nearby or far-away (like a bear you decide you’d rather zoom in on than get closer to). Additionally, the W90 includes an LED lens lighting feature for macro photography (Pentax calls it Digital Microscope mode). The digital camera also records video with 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio and can playback video via HDMI on HDTV in 720p HD video at 30 frames per second.

Adventure photography does not get more compact and tough than this!

Finis 3.1Gb waterproof MP3 player

Here’s another water-related product from FINIS, a 3.1Gb MP3 player that can be submerged in water, so you can use it for swimming. The SwiMP3 player works like the Audio Bone Headphones and transmits the sound to your cheekbones by vibration. Sound strange, but it works surprisingly well.

The SwiMP3 plays MP3 and WMA files and has basic controls embedded in one of the sides.

Speedo Aquabeat – Waterproof MP3 Player

Speedo Aquabeat

I do enjoy a good relaxing trip on my $multi-million yacht, listening to my music whilst basking in the glorious sunshine, that is until my iPod gets wet and dies on me… Yeah right. But the point is, it could happen and Speedo have engineered solution to this (or, most likely, a gizmo so people can listen to music whilst swimming) – a waterproof 2GB MP3 player that doesn’t actually look ugly! 2 GB of storage should keep you entertained for long enough with about 500 songs on it and has a nice subtle look to it, where most other waterproof devices can have very tacky color schemes and patterns.

The AquaBeat easily attaches to any swimwear items, and will float to the top of the water if dropped and comes in shades of green, pink or black. You also get all the usual usability as you would get with any other standard MP3 player.

Amazing Waterproof Coating for electronics

The picture tells a thousand words, and the video after the jump tells a thousand more. Golden Shellback is the name of the coating that is applied to these electronics that makes them impermeable to water. From their website:

“When applied to clean, moisture free surfaces, such as plastic, copper, aluminum, metal, ceramic, steel, tin or glass, the coating is transparent with excellent weather proofing and anti-corrosion properties. Golden Shellback coating has an excellent ability to repel oils, synthetic fluids, hazardous materials, dust, dirt and water based solutions. Low surface tension values, such as water and oils will bead and drain freely from coated surfaces. The process produces a uniform, continuous, near hermetic coating that resists rain and humidity. Electronics casually exposed to water continue to work even after exposure. The coating is readily applied and not generally considered to be removable. Repairs are made using abrasive methods. “
