As the Geeks mentioned last week in Windows XP nears the end, Microsoft plans to phase out XP. Well, Microsoft has decided to extend the sales of Windows XP Home to OEMs to June 30, 2010 which is two years after their extended extension.
Perhaps your entry in one of the “Save Windows […]

Google Docs Offline being rolled out

Google Docs proved (at least for me and others I know) that for a significant portion of what we use office productivity software is relatively simple and does not usually require full-blown, feature rich suites like MS Office, or OpenOffice. While I found that using GD was not an issue as I regularly have high-speed […]

Adobe launches free Web version of Photoshop

In a move similar to Google, Microsoft and a slew of other Web 2.0 companies, Adobe now offers a Web-based version of Photoshop, called Photoshop Express, for free. It is a basic version, and obviously does not have all of the features of the full version or even the cheaper Photoshop Elements, but will probably […]

Sony has a momentary lapse in sanity; quickly recovers

After their last snafu with secretly installing rootkits as a DRM measure, Sony is getting smart(er). The smart part is in listening to consumers, but they did start off again by doing something dumb. In this case, it was a $50 fee to eliminate excess non-essential applications (aka crapware) from their default Vaio laptop installations. […]

Windows XP nears the end

As an IT consultant, I’ve been through many different incarnations of Windows, and after a long and somewhat painful process, Microsoft finally rolled out a version of Windows that was in many ways pretty good (and this from a sys admin who has spent many an hour using choice epithets to describe Microsoft and their […]

Mozilla launches Extend Firefox 3 Contest

I have to wait for Firefox 3, as much as I want to upgrade now, what with the promise of better memory management and performance increases, because I depend too much on the over 2 dozen extensions that I have. But Mozilla got smart with the upcoming next release of Firefox - they’ve launched a […]

PicLens–Firefox Extension is a Photo Library Revolution

The Internet’s collective library of images is vast. A quick Google image search can quickly locate a picture of pretty much anyone or anything. Flickr is not only a great site for hosting your own photo albums, but the ability to search and browse other people’s photos is a pastime in itself. The problem […]

Dell told Microsoft about Vista issues

Bookmark/e-Mail | Posted Mar 3rd, 2008 by Chief Gadgeteer [e-mail, website]

I knew it. Vista simply wasn’t ready for prime time. Some internal documents that emerged from a class-action lawsuit over Vista Capable illustrated that hardware vendor, Dell, pushed back on Microsoft to fix issues with Vista before launching. Microsoft knew fully well of Dell’s feedback as early as Aug 2005.
Microsoft has evolved considerably since their […]

The official release of Firefox 3.0 is almost upon us, but if you can’t wait, check out a beta version. This is the 3rd beta that has been released. There’s 1 more to come, but it’s pretty much there. The reviews so far have been very positive. I can’t wait, but unfortunately, I’m going to […]
