Get Ready For A Superslim Windows 8 Tablet

The recently announced 10.1″ Windows 8 Samsung ATIV Tab 3 tablet takes its design cues from the popular Samsung GALAXY design but its stand-out feature is its low profile 8.2mm (0.3″) depth and 550g (1.2 lbs) weight.

Samsung ATIV 3 TabletComparisons to the Apple iPad are inevitable particularly as the Tab 3 is lighter and slimmer than the latest iPad.

CES 2010: Samsung Shows Off Laptop with Transparent/Invisible OLED Screen

COk, this just looks cool. This is a prototype 14″ laptop from Samsung showing off a 40% transparent OLED screen. Yes, you can actually see a hand through behind the screen.

Sure, it’s amazing to look at, but I don’t know if I’d want one – I think I’d get easily distracted by what’s behind the screen instead of focusing on what’s on the screen. Now, what would be great is if you could quickly change the opacity with a button and/or OS control.

Samsung dual-screen 12 MP digital cameras

Samsung has introduced the first point-and-shoot digital cameras with LCD screens on both the back and the front. The TL225 is a 12.2 Megapixel camera with a 1.5″ LCD screen. So now you can put the camera at arm’s length and see what the photo would actually be like!

There is more to the camera than just the front LCD screen. It has a 4.6x zoon, a 27mm wide angle, light optimization preset modes and much more. There is also another model, the TL220 that has a 3″ screen instead, at a lower price point.

10 Touchscreen Smartphones compared

PC World has a nice rundown of 10 touchscreen smartphones including some upcoming models. The phones run the gamut from the iPhone to the Samsung Omnia II and all the major US carriers.

Apart from its Windows Mobile OS, the Samsung Omnia II really has a nice set of specs. Now if only it ran Android… Hey Google and/or hackers, can you get on that? Meantime, Verizon users can get their hands on an Omnia now for $99 with a 2-yr plan.

If only we here in the US weren’t so caught up in cut-throat competition, then perhaps GSM might be a standard and phones wouldn’t be locked into specific carriers. Then you could get the phone you really wanted and use it on whatever network you had. If only…

Samsung offering a recycling program in the US

Thank you Samsung for deciding to launch a recycling program in the 50 states. With the exception of appliances, you can drop off any Samsung consumer electronics at various drop-off points. Here is the Samsung Recycling Direct website.

Samsung shows off a 82″ OLED TV with Backlight

At CES this year, Sony showed off their 1st OLED (Organic LED) TV that will go on sale, except it was a puny 11″ screen. It was a sweet looking TV though at 3mm thick and with a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. But who wants 11″ of OLED when they can get 50″ of Plasma for the same price?

Now Samsung just showed off an 82″ OLED with backlighting. We may even start seeing some more reasonably sized screens coming to stores soon as well. Essentially, it’s not a question of technology but of economics – scale and cost.
