New Gmail Lab lets you see Maps of addresses embedded in e-mails

Gmail has long had an automatic link to a map to the right of the e-mail if it detected an address in the body. But now, there’s a new Gmail Lab called “Google Maps previews in mail” that will let you preview the map right in the body of the e-mail.

Preview Maps in Gmail

It takes a few seconds to load, but it seems quicker than either clicking that automatic link or copying & pasting the address into a separate Google Maps window.

Gmail Labs rolls out Message Sneak Peek and Nested Labels

gmail nested labelsMore Gmail Labs goodies. First up is the Message Sneak Peek which when enabled, lets you preview a message without having to open them first. There is either a keyboard shortcut (‘h’) or you can right-click. Strangely enough, this only worked in Firefox for me and not Chrome.

Next is the much desired and anticipated Nested Labels which mimics hierarchical folders in traditional e-mail and file systems. Although already offered in extensions like Better Gmail, many folks wanted it built-in and/or offered directly by Google, as the extensions tended to break from time to time when Gmail was updated.

Review: Mozilla Weave keeps your Firefox installations in sync

mozilla weaveMozilla Labs has just released Weave 1.0 and (so far) it rocks for sync’ing up my Firefox installs on different computers. Weave is actually a lot more than just a synchronization tool, but that’s the first service to come out of the project.

So what’s the point of it? Let me paint you a picture: I’ve got desktop and laptop computers that I run Firefox on, and it’s a pain to have to re-implement, transfer and/or update settings, tabs, history, bookmarks, etc. whenever any of those changes on 1 or the other. Weave now takes care of that for me automatically.

Gmail Labs now has an insert image feature

Thank you, thank you Gmail Labs team. There is now a new Labs feature that lets you insert images directly into e-mails you compose within Gmail. While it’s not something I use that often, when I do, I spend waaaay too much time trying to get images inserted.

Don’t know about Gmail Labs? Oh, you’re missing out, but I warn you – don’t go clicking that tab right now unless you’ve got a few hours to spend exploring, oohing and aahing.

Gmail rolls out e-mail Autopilot

Autopilot is the latest Gmail Labs product and it’s a doozy. If you are innundated with e-mail, and need some more efficient way to deal with it, including replying, then consider Autopilot.

Simply set some settings like Brevity, and Capitalization and let Autopilot write those e-mails for you. Autopilot looks at your past history to get a feel for your writing style.
