| Posted Jul 24th, 2010 by Khalid Hosein [e-mail, website]

The SAFE Encrypted Data VaultSecure USB flash drives seems to be a GfG meme these days, so it’s fitting that we review one such product in more depth.

The SAFE from Life Link International is an encrypted 2GB USB thumb drive that comes pre-loaded with over 40 forms on which you can enter personal information. The main point of The SAFE is, as the name suggests, an electronic safe to store important personal data. It isn’t really meant to be a general storage thumb drive.

Emergency USB Charger – for phone, MP3 player, etc.

| Posted Jul 22nd, 2010 by Khalid Hosein [e-mail, website]

Emergency Charger for iPhone, iPod, Mobile Phone, etcHere’s another emergency USB charger, this one powered by 2 AA batteries. Not a bad deal for under $10, and it includes a tiny built-in LED light for grins.

However, I can’t say I love the idea of using batteries. I’d rather have it either use a rechargeable battery or even better, be solar rechargeable (like the iTech SolarCharger).

Extend your Computer’s Display via a USB-to-DVI Adapter

| Posted Jul 14th, 2010 by Khalid Hosein [e-mail, website]

Gefen USB-to-DVI HDIf you’d like to extend or mirror your display from your computer on multiple monitors, but you’re maxed out at 1 or2 (DVI/VGA) video outputs, then you should take a look at a USB to DVI adapter.

This particular one from Gefen  plugs into any free USB port on your computer then into a standard DVI-D cable and into a monitor or other HD display/TV. You can now do things like display on resolutions up to 2048×1152, rotate your display, and use an external display as the main display of a laptop.

On Windows PCs for example, with the driver installed, you can use the standard Windows Display Properties to manipulate your display. This adapter is also compatible with Mac OS X.

It’s not cheap, especially if you want to mirror to more than 1 display (up to 6). You can also take a look on Amazon.com for similar USB to DVI adapters.

The Apps They Might Have Used – American Revolution Edition

| Posted Jul 4th, 2010 by Khalid Hosein [e-mail, website]

By Jennifer Jacobson of Retrevo.com

These days it’s hard to imagine a current president or world leader who isn’t connected to the internet, who doesn’t get email, and who doesn’t have a cell phone. When Barack Obama went to the White House, a BlackBerry went with him. Senators, congressmen and leaders around the world are connected by their laptops, cell phones, and various other devices but it wasn’t always like this. Our founding fathers (and mothers) had to do things the hard way. If they wanted a message delivered, someone had to deliver it by hand. If they wanted to research something, they had to find a book or an actual person who knew more than they did. If they got lost, there was no GPS device to point them in the right direction.
