Review: Adesso’s S100 Bluetooth Mouse

adesso s100 Bluetooth mouseHere’s a review of Adesso’s new Bluetooth mini-scroll mouse, the S100.

It’s portable, so perfect for road warriors, without sacrificing any accuracy. Syncing via Bluetooth to my WinXP laptop was a snap and I was up and running in less than 30 seconds.

My first test was to sit on my cloth sofa and place the mouse next to me on the sofa without a buffer. The S100 tracked well and I didn’t have any need to compensate my movements for losses due to the surface. On flat solid surfaces, it performed perfectly.

The 2 AAA batteries that run this little guy add just enough heft to give it a solid feel without getting too heavy.

While the range is rated up to 30 ft, I didn’t bother testing it as most folks are simply not going to go even 10ft away from their laptop to use their mouse!

One of its touted features is its metal scroll wheel. While nice, I didn’t think it really made much of a difference over any of the dozens of plastic scroll wheels I’ve used in the past. However, its click scrolling and click-down actions were nice and solid.

Although small, it’s not so small as to have your hand feeling cramped after extended use. Of course, I wouldn’t advise gaming with it!

I would have liked the S100 to have side-buttons as I use these all the time when browsing the Web, but is understandable that they were left out of a portable mouse. Another minor annoyance of mine was that the on/off button is just a bit too recessed, and you really need to angle your fingernail in there to flip it.

Overall, you can’t go wrong with this mouse (~$25), especially when you travel.
