For all of our sys/network admin readers out there, we feature a pair of very handy tools: the Ethernet Crossover Adapter & the Ethernet Loopback Jack. The ones among you have tested out an ethernet cable or searched through your box of cables for a crossover will say “Ah. At last!” For the uninitiated, the crossover adapter easily turns a straight through ethernet cable into a crossover cable (pretty useful for directly networking 2 computers, for example). No more building your own cable. The loopback cable on the other hand will allow you to quickly test a network cable for continuity or a switch port.
The loopback jack has these fine features:
- The loopback jack can be used to test ethernet pairs
- Can also be used to match an outlet on a switch hub with a wall jack
- This jack can be used in conjunction with other ethernet test equipment
- Small, very portable, easy to use
- Comes with small chain for connecting to your keyring, backpack, tool bag, etc.
- Carry it as a symbol of your geek status
The crossover adapter has these features:
- Connect this directly to a standard network cable to convert to a crossover cable
- Carry fewer cables and save space
- Comes with small chain for connecting to your keyring, backpack, tool bag, etc.
- Handy for network maintenance and testing
- Small, very portable, easy to use
Price: $5.99 for Loopback tool, $5.99 for Crossover tool
(Please note prices are subject to change and the listed price is correct to the best of our knowledge at the time of posting)

I am interested in the crossover tool, but I need to know what are the pinouts to make sure that it is what I need. Can you tell me which pins are tied toghether?
Crossover cables are usually pretty standard. I’ll bet this one is too. Here is a nice visual reference.
