If you’re a regular visitor to Gizmos for Geeks, then you know that we love our alarm clocks. And of course, we had to feature a voice-controlled alarm clock, namely the Moshi.
Well Moshi has a new model out, the Moshi Voice Control Digital Clock Radio, that includes an AM/FM radio, and we had a chance to test it out.

This alarm clock marries two of my favorite items together including Star Wars and LEGOs. The clock’s exterior is built from LEGO pieces while the clock features Japanese Quartz movement for the actual timepiece. The LEGO Star Wars Alarm Clock includes a buildable Blaster Turret and 2 minifigs (a Stormtrooper and Chewbacca).
In addition to the geekiness of combining Star Wars and LEGOs, the alarm can actually wake up the sleepy geeks too with a crescendo alarm which gets louder until acknowledged.

After pranking you with the iCade for iPad, we figure we may as well lay some real gadgets from ThinkGeek on you.
Here is a super-geeky Epoch Alarm Clock, which can display the time in multiple different formats, including binary and hexadecimal. My favorite? Of course, it has to be why the clock was named: the time since the Unix epoch (Jan 1, 1970).
Yes, this also functions as a working alarm clock, with snooze, and has USB ports so you can charge up those gazillion USB gadgets you have. Now, if it only ran about the room like Clocky…

Woot! Another crazy alarm clock – this one makes you shoot hoops to disable snooze the alarm clock. By the time you make a basket, you’re probably going to be pretty worked up and awake.
I think after day one, I’d probably give up and just let the alarm continue!

Sleep tracking devices are really starting to become more popular. The Zeo Personal Sleep Coach is a relatively new sleep aid that builds on the research and attempts to take sleep optimization to the next level.
Zeo consists of 2 basic parts – a headband that you wear to bed, and a bedside display/data gatherer. The Zeo Bedside Display shows you a visualization of how your last night’s sleep went as well as how it compared to previous nights.
One particularly nice feature is that all of the data is stored on an SD memory card that you can then pop into your computer for upload to the myZeo website for further analysis, and storage in your own sleep journal. Research has shown that a sleep journal (like other journaling methods) is an effective way to detect and correct issues with your sleep.
Like other sleep aids that we’ve featured in the past (SleepTracker, aXbo and ZZZ Checker), the Zeo looks for that optimal point in your sleep cycle to attempt waking you.

This is just a design right now, but it’s cool-looking for sure. Called the Switchital Clock, the numbers break apart and morph to the next set of numbers each minute. Designer Matthias Pugin has a number of other cool designs on his website.
Looking for a real alarm clock? We got lots of those!

How many different things can you combine into 1 device and then of course make it USB-connected and -powered? Obviously the answer is infinite! Here’s another – an alarm clock, with a speaker and a calendar all modeled to look an old-fashioned radio announcer’s microphone (like the one Larry King has as a prop).
The speaker plugs into any 3.5mm audio device (like an iPod or other MP3 player). The clock itself is powered by batteries – another retro ‘feature’. I suppose for the low price, you can’t expect too much. Unfortunately, it’s missing the obvious feature – a microphone!

This gadget just smacks of ‘Made in China on a “3rd shift”‘! For just $10, this handheld device measures your body fat percentage, and is also a clock and an alarm clock. Ha! It can also stores 8 different sets of data. What’s scary is that it can apparently measure from 5 to 50%. Can you imagine having a 50% body fat %?
On the other hand, this body fat analyzer by Hivox looks more legit. Of course, so is the price ($67). It also remembers 8 different profiles and shows you graphical versions of body fat types.

Retro is in – it’s time to dig out all those Etch-a-Sketchs and Diablos and get playing! More alarm clock gadgets. This one looks like a Rubik’s cube, and includes time, date, alarm and temperature. To keep the cube theme going, you rotate the top row to switch between the different functions. Not as easy as pushing a button, but hey, you wanted a Rubik’s cube alarm clock, right?

Sometimes we do have to get up for work, and this can be a real problem. The iMM153 responds to this by providing an iPod powered ‘bed shaker’ alarm clock. Plug in your iPod before going to bed, set the alarm and you will be pleasantly awakened in the morning by your favorite music… and your pillows vibrating.
This latest product by iLuv (a large producer of iPod supplies) comes in at $60 and has a lot of features for the money. Obviously you get a set of speakers to play and charge your iPod in, but you also get a lovely FM radio built in with 10 presets for your favorite radio stations. Hit the buy link for a full spec list!
