The Lilypad floating city concept

Posted Jun 23rd, 2008 by Chief Gadgeteer

Although it’s just a concept, an idea, the Lilypad elicits a ‘wow’ when you see the artist-imagined images. The idea is relatively simple – a floating city that can hold about 50,000 people that is self-sustaining. Why? Well, what if the oceans do rise and we lose a lot of existing landmass, particularly with all of the coastal cities that we have around the world?

The Lilypad is intended to be a zero-emission city, and even be able to process CO2. Take a look at this page for many more pictures. I do have to agree with one commenter who wondered about the physical stability of such a city. It’s just a pipe dream at this point, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much; just enjoy the pictures!
