Light sticks that last 12 years

Posted Jun 15th, 2008 by Chief Gadgeteer

A company called MPK has invented a new light source that they’re dubbing Litroenergy that last 12 years without a recharge. They’re like traditional glow sticks. They’re even crush resistant up to 5000lbs. Interestingly, the material can be added to paint or plastics. The color can be adjusted to suit.

So what’s the catch? Well, it’s active ingredient is Tritium. Yup, that’s radioactive just like it sounds and the US in particular bans its import. Oh well.
