NY Times developing API to access its content
In a very good move, the NY Times has announced that it is developing an API so that programmers/readers can access the various content that it has stashed around its vast site. This is exactly what the Times needs to compete with a Rupert Murdoch-run Wall Street Journal that is probably going to turn to more political news reporting to compete head-on with the NYT.
The Times has already been one of the traditional newspapers that has led the way into the digital age, with Web-ified versions of their newspaper content, RSS feeds, blogs, a news aggregator, and even a Facebook application. This is certainly the next logical step in their digital evolution. We should start seeing pieces of this API appear this summer.
