Nintendo Wii
The Geek’s top pick of the 2007 Christmas Season is a repeat from last year… the Nintendo Wii. As hard to find today as a year ago, the Wii continues to sell out whenever it appears on store shelves (and virtual store shelves). It took me until August to finally get my mitts on one and I’ve had friends ask me to pick one up if I ever come across one. If you see a Wii, grab it!
What makes the Wii the top gadget of season… two years in a row? Gameplay thanks to the Wimote. Held in your hand, it detects where you are in 3-D space and what your motions are. How cool is that? Imagine really playing sports games now. The Wii boasts some cool specs: 512MB of flash, 2 USB ports, SD slot, an IBM brain, an ATI GPU, and WiFi connectivity. Be careful of getting addicted and then needing to see your doctor about chronic Wii pain! I’ve heard of people getting Tennis Elbow from playing too much Tennis on Wii Sports. My fingers have become callused thanks to Guitar Hero 3 on the Wii but my 2150 ranking on Tennis displays my love of playing Tennis on the Wii too. With new items like the Wii Blaster and the Wii Zapper with Link’s Crossbow Trainer hitting the market not to mention the upcoming release of Wii Fit, the Wii has become a more versatile and interesting gaming system.
