Belkin Flip Wireless 2 Port KVM USB

Belkin Flip Wireless 2 Port KVM USB

Belkin tries to make life easier for us computer geeks that have more than one computer sitting on their desk (or beside or under) at home. In fact, the Flip is meant for those of us with a laptop and desktop at home and allows you to use one keyboard, video and mouse (hence the acronym KVM) for your desktop and laptop.

KVMs have been around for some time of course but Belkin makes this one cool by calling it the Flip and including an RF remote. The price seems good to me considering I spent over $300 for my last KVM switch six years ago… you know, when the “dot-com” was busting.

Cobra 17-Mile 2-Way Radio Dual Pack

Cobra 17-Mile 2-Way Radio Dual Pack

Did you know that 87% of all cell phone calls occur between parties that are less than 17 miles apart? Ok, so I completely made that up, but this Cobra 17-Mile 2-Way Radio allows you to keep in touch with your spouse or kids from up to 17 miles away. Since these are radios you don’t have to pay monthly fees to the cell phones companies.

It can be hard to keep a group together when camping, hiking or skiing, so whether you’re out having fun or just trying to meet up with friends at school, two-way radios are useful communication devices. Plus, you get to be a kid again and I get to use my walkie talkie name of “Rubber Duckie”!

Rosendahl Alarm Clock

| Posted Mar 29th, 2007 by Chief Gizmateer [e-mail, website]

Rosendahl Alarm Clock

There is something very satisfying about the simple shiny black cube design of this alarm clock from Rosendahl. Like the pyramids of Giza or the enigmatic monolith from 2001, basic geometric shapes can often project a strong, timeless message. This one clearly says, “I own a very 1337 alarm clock and, so sad, you do not.” We like that message.

High functionality is at the core of Rosendahl’s new series of timepieces. This alarm clock has a digital display, a snooze function and it lights up automatically when the alarm is set. It also has a blue backlight display. Designed by Flemming Bo Hansen. Integrated crystal and case made of polycarbonate crystal.

The Office Space Kit

The Office Space Kit

Today I officially become a cube-dweller as my recently purchased company moves our branch to another location where there is only one office. It is a sad sad day especially because it looks like they want me to come in on Saturday… and Sunday too mmmkay.

To celebrate this reversal of my working environment status, I think I need to get The Office Space Kit as described by ThinkGeek:

Just a few things, mmmKay? First, welcome to the new office location of Initech. The rumors of the fire that burned down Initech v1.0 are just rumors, okay? We moved to this location as the company upsized its profitability and downsized its expenses. So, yeah, here is your “Welcome Kit.” It has all you need to excel here at Initech.

Everyone gets an Initech mug and a little stapler. The stapler should only be used on TPS Reports, mmmKay? And make sure you use the new TPS Report Coversheets for each one. Also, you’re getting a motivational sign to hang in your workspace. Yeah. Don’t forget the Jump to Conclusions Mat – it’s our newest product developed in-house by yours truly. And just in case you don’t work out here, you’re getting a piece of starter “flair” so you can work at that horrible little restaurant down the street.

Apple TV – Yet Another First Look

| Posted Mar 28th, 2007 by Chief Gadgeteer [e-mail, website]

Michael Czyz at Techlore takes a look at the Apple TV: “I had planned to wait and get reports from my friends before I went and purchased one, but my Macbook Pro was in for a repair and when I picked it up on Friday, I made an impulse buy. They place the things right near the registers like a candy aisle, so who am I to resist?”

Soldius 1 Solar Charger

The cost of most forms of energy has increased a lot recently. Thankfully, the energy emitted from the Sun is still free (until some scrooge genius figures out how to charge for it). The Soldius 1 Solar Charger can help you tap into this free source of energy; you just plug it in and point it towards the Sun. It generates enough power to fully recharge your device batteries in just 2 to 3 hours (in direct sunlight).

Check out the compatibility chart to see if you can charge up your gadgets and save some green by being green.

Nixie Tubes Do Double Duty as Clocks

| Posted Mar 27th, 2007 by Chief Gadgeteer [e-mail, website]

Do you know what a Nixie tube is? Me either. And I have a degree in Electrical Engineering! I guess I’m not old school enough. But now thanks to GeekFoolery, I know what it is and that they sell clocks made from this long since discarded technology. Always cool to know that instead of ending up in landfills, obsolete materials and products can be re-used in some way. Thanks Mr. Alex.

Acoustic Magic Voice Tracker Kit w/USB Adapter

Acoustic Magic Voice Tracker Kit w/USB Adapter

I gave up on my voice-activated home automation system a couple years ago as both my blood pressure and volume of my voice would continue to climb but the damn office light wouldn’t dim as I commanded. I felt like the boss at the end of the first show of The IT Crowd (brilliant British sitcom about geeks).

Anyway, the Acoustic Magic Voice Tracker Array Microphone automatically locates and electronically steers toward you when you talk allowing you to move around during a speech or teleconference -OR- in my case you can use the Microphone to control your home automation system whether you’re home or not.

The included USB adapter lets you take full advantage of HomeSeer Automation Software: Plug the adapter into your computer’s port, and use voice commands to control your home automation system.

AuraGrid Home Network Extension Kit

| Posted Mar 25th, 2007 by Chief Gizmateer [e-mail, website]

AuraGrid Home Network Extension Kit

Does your wireless network cut off in certain spots in your house? These dead spots always seem to occur in the worst places like on your bed or in your favorite recliney-type chair (my favorite reclining chair is called “DRM” because I’d like to sit on it).

AuraGrid Home Network Extension Kit will allow you to extend your wireless to cover these dead spots by distributing the signals over standard coaxial cables. Setup takes mere minutes so you’ll be able to sit on “DRM” in no time with faster file transfers by eliminating interference.
