Groovy! That’s the best word to describe this iPod accessory consisting of speakers and LED lights.
The iPulse ZipConnect Speakers with ColorSync LEDs pulses to the music with a brilliant lightshow using red, blue and green LEDs. The speakers should not only look good but should sound good as well as they are made with dual aluminum-cone speakers.
Welcome to the Jukebox of the 21st century!

Creative was recently granted a patent for their MP3 player interface. In other words, a menuing system. While this has occurred before, this statement bears repeating – this is ridiculous. How many trivial patents is the USPTO going to continue granting? Creative’s menuing system is quite similar to the iPod and many other MP3 player’s interfaces for a simple reason – they work well and fit the devices’ size and purpose. Does this mean that Creative is going to legally go after Apple, iRiver, Archos, etc.? Probably. Or at least demand licensing fees.

Maxtor, one of the world’s largest suppliers of hard disk drives, has licensed Mediabolic’s Media Server software to deliver a new line of UPnP- and DLNA-compliant network-attached storage (NAS) products with built-in media server capabilities. Maxtor incorporates Mediabolic’s media server software which elevates the NAS from a backup support PC peripheral to an entertainment hub for the digital home.
The Mediabolic Media Server is software that makes music, photo, and video files available over a network for streamed playback on connected entertainment products. The software resides on a PC, NAS, or DVR and aggregates media content so that it can be accessed by a variety of digital home products, such as a networked DVD players and digital media adapters. The Media Server software is ready-to-run on any Windows- or Linux-based system and can be ported onto other platforms as well. In addition, because the software is NMPR-certified and is designed to DLNA guidelines, the Media Server will interoperate with a wide range of digital home devices.

Normally the Geeks only feature products that you can get your hands on right now but since Logitech’s Cordless Desktop MX 5000 Laser is coming out soon we thought we’d feature it. Logitech refers to this keyboard as the “world’s first intelligent desktop” because of the two way communication between the keyboard/mouse and desktop.
The keyboard has an LCD keyboard display which allows you to receive notification of new IM or email messages, view application information, check date and time. Also, the keyboard has touch-sensitive media control, one touch syncronization with bluetooth phones and is ready for Windows Media Center Edition 2005. Finally, the device connects to the desktop via Bluetooth with SecureConnect(TM) technology.
All in all this keyboard is quite advanced… the geeks want to know is that what you want?

The Parnell family of Sheffield, England were lucky enough to be selected to test-drive a new hi-tech house that is loaded with gadgets. Inside this house, they have amenities such as a wireless network, self-cleaning windows, underfloor heating and seal-sealing fire doors. As part of the deal, the Parnells each have to wear an electronic ID bracelet so that the developers can track what rooms and gadgets they use and how often. Not a bad deal, if you ask me. Of course, some of the gadgets/cutting-edge nicities could have been puchased after the fact, but most had to be built into the house to begin with, otherwise you’re looking at some serious renovation. This adds $$$ to the cost, and this is what the developer is putting to the test.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is set to start selling the Wakamaru personal robot in Japan in September. The child-sized robot is set to be priced at about 1 million yen (approximately US $14,250). In case, you didn’t know, the Wakamaru is 3.3 ft tall, 60 lbs and is meant to function as a house-sitter/caretaker/companion. It knows approximately 10,000 words, can recognize faces, is directly connected to the Internet (wish I was!), and can be hooked up to a cell phone to alert others in the case of a burglary or someone at home in distress. It can even follow voices and movement and can interact with people in a limited way.
