Portable computer storage is getting smaller, and so is the price.

Verbatim Corp. this month will start selling a 2.1-gigabyte hard drive that weighs less than 1.8 ounces and fits in a shirt pocket. The Store ‘n’ Go 2.1 GB USB hard drive can be used to store more than two hours of video, 500 hours of high-quality music files, 1,000 high-quality photos or thousands of pages of documents. Data is stored on a 1-inch, 4200 RPM drive that fits in a sleek 2.75-inch by 2.125-inch by 0.5-inch unit — not dramatically larger than a business card. Verbatim is aiming at students, executives who want to store presentations, and vacationers who take lots of digital photos. The drive comes with a protective carrying pouch, a lanyard, a USB extension cable and a disc with Windows 98 drivers.

• Techno-stress factor: Low; connects to any computer with a USB port.

• Price: Retails for $249, but should sell online for less.
